I have a bike. Her name is Rhoda, a gift from my good friend Stephanie who got herself a Bianchi. We ride around New Orleans every day, for work, for play, for exploration.
Then I got Jack, my Surly Long Haul Trucker. Jack and I go for longer rides and we plan to ride together, for a long, long time, all over the place.
There is much to see, and this blog records just some of the things that I Saw, Riding My Bike Around Today.
Greetings Kate: My biking partner and I are headed to New Orleans late Wednesday for the duration of Mardi Gras and we are bringing our bikes. I attended Newcomb (Tulane) many years ago and my friend lived in and around New Orleans when he was a little boy so we adore the city. Any suggestions where to ride. I was a little hesitant about getting in the parades with the bikes and was thinking more around Tulane,, Audobon Park, City Park etc. Hope to hear from you.

Hello,
I think my computer froze for just a second when I wrote you a few days ago, so I don’t think you got it. If you did, please disregard.
I have been a reader of your blog for quite some time and it is really inspiring. I am an avid biker, like yourself, and always wanted to take photos on my rides, but never got around to it.
I finally did, and am having a great time doing it. It is definitely inspired by awisrmbat, but I post video and links I find as well as my bike riding photographs.
Oh yeah, I live in Austin, TX.
I have a link posted to your site in gratitude. Thanks!
Best,
Keith
Thanks, Keith! I love your tumbling photos, by the way. I’m adding you to my blogroll too. May we have many rides and take many photographs!

Dear WISRMBAT,
My wife and I are new to NO (living in the uptown area) and were wondering what features you would recommend for a bike in New Orleans. Our innards have been throughly jarred driving around so I vote for balloon tires. I would love to have a Velorbis Churchill but they are not sold in the states. Any help or great bike shop recommendations would be great. Many thanks. Travis.
If I were you and wanted to sneak into the Lutheran events, just say you are from South Dakota and lost your arm band. My colleague is a Lutheran pastor in Sioux Falls he describes it as a Lutheran ghetto were youth frequently lost things; he said that should get you in.
Hello and welcome to New Orleans! Sorry about the delay in replying–I’ve been traveling about. Biking is definitely the right choice here, and actually, almost any bike will do. Flats can be avoided with proper tire pressure, but no bike will really keep you from feeling the bad roads in the knees. Neither of my bikes has shocks–I wonder if that might help…My road bike is steel, and I find the material absorbs more road shock than the aluminum frame of my cruiser.
I realize I’m not being that helpful. But I wish I could go shopping with you! I love new bikes. Let me know if you want a friend to go to the bike shoppe with you guys. See you on the roads!
Hey,
I dig your blogs. I have a blog about old bicycles and Louisiana life. Check it out sometime if you get the chance.
Hi, Dominic–I was just checking out your blog. Your pix are drool-worthy! I’ll be adding you to the blogroll. I’m glad you found me!
You bet! Thank you for the compliment on my photos. I’m glad we found each other. I need someone, besides myself, to read my blog. Louisiana is a small state hopefully, someday, we’ll bump into each other riding.
Hi hi – LOVE your blog, and that bike tat! Sick! Happy I found this blog! I just started one, exchange links? oh and WHO DAT!!!!
