I was tired after a long day, but I couldn’t let this first cool(ish) evening go without getting out for a ride on the Surly. It was positively lovely out there. I headed over to Canal and rode over and along Bayou St. John, where lots of folks were out enjoying the cooler and drier [...]

Today’s bike ride took me down to the Marigny to meet up with S. for some writing and coffee. It is apparently the last warm day for awhile, but I’ll believe that when I feel it. I zipped back Uptown to meet K. for a show.

I have been writing this bike blog for well over a year, posting over three hundred times, and yet I have never posted, not even once, about bike helmets. This is an incredibly contentious issue among riders, and I really ought to have an opinion. I passed this mixed-use helmet sitting out on a trash [...]

It was a stormy day in New Orleans, but I magically missed the downpours, by just six minutes on my ride home from work and altogether on my ride up from the Treme, where I enjoyed a delicious homemade organic carrot cake from D.

A couple weeks ago I got a rear view mirror for my helmet/glasses, but I’ve been slow to actually use it. After finishing up a bunch of work this afternoon, I decided to give it a go and take the Surly out for a ride. I hooked up the mirror on my glasses, and it [...]
